Our approach

How we teach Chemistry

Chemistry is our flagship subject. We also run the free YouTube channel Chemistry with Zain Nano. Lessons cover mole calculations, reaction mechanisms and practical papers step by step, and you practise with topical past papers from every recent session.

Link particle explanations to equations and calculations. For mole questions, identify what the balanced equation tells you before choosing numbers to divide or multiply.

Topics covered

  • Atomic structure & bonding
  • Stoichiometry & the mole
  • Energetics & rates
  • Equilibria, acids & bases
  • Organic chemistry
  • Electrochemistry
  • Practical & ATP papers

Try a practice question

Turn mass into amount of substance

An original learning exercise, not an official exam question.

Find the amount, in moles, in 5.85 g of sodium chloride. Use a molar mass of 58.5 g/mol.

Show the worked answer
  1. Use amount = mass ÷ molar mass.
  2. Substitute n = 5.85 g ÷ 58.5 g/mol.
  3. The gram units cancel, leaving moles.

n = 0.100 mol of sodium chloride.

Common mistake: Use the molar mass of the whole compound. For a reaction calculation, apply the balanced equation's mole ratio before finding another substance's mass.
